English remains the dominant language of international business and global communication, mainly influenced by media, entertainment outlets and advancements in technology. English is not the only language used in global organizations such as in the EU or the UN, however many countries do recognize English as the universal language. There are people across the world that need to learn how to read, write and communicate in English in order to be capable of communicating in the global business. TESOL trains you to be a Fully Qualified Second Language Teacher. We give our TESOL students the ability to meet the growing demands for English teachers across the globe.  The course gives you all the theory and skills needed to become an effective second language teacher and be able to find employment in government funded institutions, recognized accredited private schools, vocational language schools and colleges both at home and abroad. TESOL USA only accredits institutions which offer a minimum 300 hour program, which incorporates all integral aspects of teaching as part of the curriculum.

Conversational Teaching practicum (60 hours): The starting point for the course that allows the trainee teacher to develop an awareness of the cultural and linguistic differences between our language students.
Assistant Teaching practice (20 hours): Assist an experienced teacher in order to prepare for your teaching practicum.
Grammar Teaching practicum (80 hours): The chance to put into practice everything that has been learnt in the course.  Support, observation and feedback are given by the course coordinator.  All the teaching materials are provided.
Observations (10 hours): This allows the trainee teacher to observe different teaching styles and pick up valuable information on how to teach second languages.
Conversational teaching activities: How to design and use conversational teaching activities.
Lesson plan and lesson plan presentation: How to plan lessons and create teaching resources.
Research paper (1): This allows the trainee teacher to develop a greater understanding of second language teaching issues, both practical and theoretical.

Course Duration:

The minimum time to complete the course is 12 weeks but trainees may take from 12-24 weeks. Please contact your institution directly for exact course duration.

Correspondence or OnLine; 

All Diploma programs offered through TESOL USA may be conducted by correspondence/ online which may take a longer time period to complete. Theoretical aspects of the courses can be conducted correspondence/ online while the experience portion will be conducted in a representative school in your area.

What are the pre-requisites?

  • To ensure and maintain the quality of our program, we will require applicants to take an English Language Proficiency Test
  • Applicants must have  a good command of English (Including English Grammar)
  • Candidates with at least a Bachelor’s degree are preferred but candidates with College or High School diplomas or equivalent 1st year University are also accepted into the program
  • Public schools employers will require a bachelor to complement a TESOL Certificate; most private employers will accept TESOL Certificate with few years of College education

Up to Date Teaching Materials

TESOL materials at TESOL USA is regularly monitored reflecting a precise day to day available knowledge of teaching in this field. Students will receive a Teacher’s TESOL Theory Manual covering all up dated methodologies and pedagogical skills, a Conversation Activity Manual that would cover over 100 conversation activities, and a Grammar Lesson Plan Guide Line of more that 50 lesson plans for various levels and topics. Students will also receive an emailed Job search manual prepared by Secretary of Labour and Ministry of Employment, for USA & Overseas Employments in the field of Teaching Languages in addition to a Cambridge University set of Teachers Manual, Student Manual and a Work Book. Most of the TESOL materials are available Online and some will be provided through email. If necessary hard copy material can also be mailed.

These material will cover all necessary tools to start teaching, planning for lessons, providing conversation activities and even starting a job search in the field of teaching. Although overseas jobs are very appealing, but TESOL USA  will prepare you for both positions in USA and overseas.

Class Size

Since the TESOL program includes both Theory and Experience, TESOL USA provides few language students toTESOL trainees to perform their experience part. Practicum can be completed Online or In-Class and class size is limited to only 5 students.

Pre-requisites:

Although most of our TESOL students have at least a Bachelor degree, the first year of prior College level education (in any field) is the basic requirement to enter the program. Once the basic requirements are met, all students need to pass an entry Language Proficiency Exam in the selected language that they wish to obtain a Teaching Certificate at. Registrations are based on interview selections and candidates entry examination performance.

Scholarships:

At every given session, there are few students who can qualify to receive the TESOL scholarship toward their education at TESOL USA. Scholarship recipients selections are through their entry exam evaluations and their scholarship application requirements.

Teaching Practicum:

Our training includes various weekly conversation activities and lesson plans presentations to prepare students for the actual teaching practicum. Once instructed properly, students will have to provide their Conversation Activities and Lesson Plan assignments to their instructors for further evaluations and use the designed Lesson Plans in an actual class room or online setting. Teaching a complete level of a Conversation class and a complete level of a Grammar Class has to be experienced to complete Teachers’ Qualifications. Practicum can entirely be completed Online.

The taught course: Theory and teaching skills :
This section is delivered through the theory week and the weekly online feedback sessions.
(3 hours daily in 3 weeks).

How long will the course take?

The minimum time to complete the 300 hrs course is 12 weeks but trainees may take up to 24 weeks. Trainees with former teaching experience can complete only the theory portion (150 hrs) of this course and graduate within 6 weeks.

Can I teach two languages?

Yes, the course prepares you to teach English and any other language, teaching skills and theory are the same. To achieve “Second Language Certification” you must take a proficiency test in the second language to convince that your language knowledge is sufficient. You must then complete a teaching practicum in that second language. Spanish, French, Russian, Arabic, Japanese, Italian, Portuguese, Chinese and Korean are offered as the second language teaching certifications. (Second certificate will costs $800)

TESOL USA prefers candidates with at least a Bachelors degree but will accept candidates with college diplomas or equivalent high school completion who demonstrate high qualities needed in teaching career through an interview.
